Whether you are choosing new bedroom furniture or plan on transforming the old stuff, you can still achieve your goal of a bedroom overhaul. Maybe you want a very modern, trendy finish, or perhaps the design you are after is a bit more traditional.
There's plenty you can do with basic decoration techniques and soft furnishings but when it comes to furniture, you only need one clumsy piece to throw the whole thing out! Unless you are really clever, the trendy design really won't work with that old, heavy antique dresser (no matter how lovely it is in its own right) regardless of the way you try to balance them out. Knowing when something works and when it doesn't is all part of the design process.
If you are taking the plunge and purchasing new furniture, then it would certainly be worth considering sliding door wardrobes. With all that free standing furniture taking up space in your room, you may not even have seen the potential that an alternative solution might have.
It's possible that you have been put off by prices, but when you consider the amount of storage space created by these sleek new wardrobes, you realise you won't need much extra storage furniture and suddenly its more economical!
With the vast amount of storage inside the new wardrobes, you are likely not to need those extra drawers and shelves. Choose mirrored doors and you won't need that clunky old mirror either. There are masses of styles and designs available, with colours and finishes to suit almost any design project, so sliding wardrobe doors really could be an option in your bedroom overhaul.
If you have decided to revamp your old furniture there are ways of doing this inexpensively, sometimes you need only change the handles to create a whole new look.
For example, if you have a basic white wardrobe with really outdated handles and you want to create a very stylish contemporary look, all you have to do is remove the handles, fill in the holes (if necessary) and then choose some very long chrome handles (very current). Drill holes, where needed, and fix with the screws provided with the handles. Just a few minutes work and you have a very up to date piece of furniture for the cost of a couple of handles!
Another bedroom furniture transformation technique is to sand down a piece of furniture and then apply an undercoat. Paint it in a colour that fits in with your scheme and if you want the room to look bigger, painting the furniture the same colour as the walls helps create that illusion.
Painting and stencilling a theme onto your furniture is a very cheap way of updating and transforming your bedroom. Choose a theme that is current, purchase your stencils wisely and fill in the stencil in a different colour to your furniture. Motifs can also be stuck onto pieces of furniture and if done properly can look really nice.
